TEC 541 Benchmark - Exemplar Learning Lesson

The topic of focus for this module is an 8th grade math two day lesson on "Solving Solutions of Equations by Substitution."

This project is a distance learning module for students and teachers that demonstrate best practices in online learning.

Classroom manage expectations are for students to attend scheduled class times, listen to lessons and ask questions when unsure about a particular concept. Also, proper use of the discussion rooms including the primary meeting location for the class, turn in assignments on time and when needed, use email to ask teacher about course content.

Learning Objectives

The objectives for this course are:

1: Students will be able to use the substitution method to solve systems of equations.

2: Students will be able to represent situations as systems of equations and interpret solutions as viable/nonviable options for the situation.

Content Delivery

This course will use an online meeting program such as Google Meet, an online discussion forum using Google Classroom for both discussions and a central location for materials to be found. I will also be using the Newline electronic board for demonstrating how to solve each problem step by step and its whiteboard function to help clarify any specific problems or details. I will be using the Savvas math curriculum on the Newline board to show a variety of content specific problems, videos of the math concepts being taught and games to enforce content areas.

Interactive Activities

Interactive activities will include but are not limited to using the Kahoot! program to create a gamified environment, discussion boards using the Google Classroom and checking for understanding as the lesson progresses using Google Meet as the primary synchronous scheduled meeting application.

Assessment Tools

There will be an assignment, done online following the day one lesson. This assignment is to reinforce content material and the goal is for the students to score a 70% or higher. Those who score lower will receive additional instruction to try and raise their understanding. At the conclusion of the second day of this module, an online assessment will be given using the Savvas program. It will be a five question topic quiz to determine the students understanding. The goal is for the students to score at least a 75% overall score before proceeding. Both the assignment and assessment are automatically scored so the student can receive immediate feedback and the teacher can gain valuable data.
